MERRY CHRISTMAS 2011, HAPPY NEW YEAR 2012!
Frequently Asked Questions from 2011
- Plummer family style -
"What else is there to be done?"
At the beginning of the year Jon finished remodeling the kitchen by building an island, installing a granite countertop and tiling the backsplash. Then in the last few months we heard this again when Jon worked on a 30 foot section of "Board and Batten" in our living room. Julie painted the walls to finish off the project(s).
"Dad, when are you coming home?"
Near the end of the day Rachel dials the phone and encourages Jon to come home from work. Jon is on his 9th year working for Sumitomo, a supplier for Toyota. He was promoted this last year to Assistant Manager and is leading a team of engineers designing the electrical power distribution for the 2013 Toyota Avalon.
"Where's your car?"
Julie asks Kameron (2 in Jan.) this question often since Kam's energy needs to be redirected sometimes. We think it is fitting that his first word and true love is anything "car" since we live near the "Motor City".
"Are we there yet?"
During July we heard this question often. We drove to Colorado to visit Julie's sister Marianne. Then we drove to Cimarron, New Mexico to spend a week at the Philmont Boy Scout Ranch. What an awesome experience it was to have a great family vacation and receive fine instruction from LDS Young Men leaders. We continued west to Las Vegas. In an amazing coincidence, Jon's co-worker's wedding was in Vegas that weekend. Then we spent some time in St. George, Utah to visit Jon's sister, Joyce and her new baby Gordon. We enjoyed a mini Plummer reunion and even saw some old friends from Michigan who were also visiting St. George. Our last stop before returning home was Provo, UT to buy some BYU clothing for the kids. (We've decided that BYU is not only a great school but a great deal when compared to local universities in Michigan!) From there we finally made the last leg of our journey home. After driving about 4500 miles, we were in the car approximately 68 hours. It was an incredible vacation as no one got sick the entire trip!
"Mom, where are you going?"
Rachel is always very concerned about where Mom is headed when Julie is on her way out the door to get something done w/o kids tagging along. If the kids are not present Julie is an avid coupon shopper. Additionally Julie may also be on her way out the door to a Young Women's activity at the church. In October she was called as the Young Women's President of the YW organization (12-18 year olds).
"Are you going to a public school or the charter school?"
With a new charter school going in down the street, this was on the mind of a lot of parents this summer. We chose to keep Hailey (3rd) and Rachel (Kindergarten) in the local public school. Hailey's reading interest has taken off this year, as well as her understanding of mathematics; however, she still doesn't like history that much. Rachel was selected to be on Student Council, she can count to over 100 already, reads above her grade level and is working on being friends with all the children in her class. We are proud of their successes.
"Have you practiced piano yet?"
Just like any other kid, Hailey & Rachel would rather do anything but their chores or practice piano, however we've learned that through bribery or subtle coercion they eventually get it done and do a great job. Hailey often volunteered to play in front of her 2nd grade class and even played in front of her entire school in the annual talent show. In July, Hailey also played a solo of "I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ" at her own baptismal service after being confirmed a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
"Can I go on an airplane?"
Rachel has expressed this wish all year. Finally in November her wish was granted when we headed out to Sacramento to a Thanksgiving Plummer family reunion. The weather was warm, the family time was great and we were amazed at the distance we could travel after only 6 hours.
We wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
